Yesterday Savana was the first UG youth to blog on the new UG Youth blog. You can check it out here: You can check it out here. The gameplan is to let a different youth update it every day so people can see what happens from a youth perspective, instead of relying just on my voice.
The Underground is our youth center and home to the youth ministry program of First United Presbyterian Church in Winterset.
The UG is open immediately after school Mondays-Fridays until 5:30 p.m for youth 3rd grade and up. The after school program is free and sometimes even fun. :)
There are 3 main youth groups that meet:
WAC (Wednesday After-School Club) meets weekly On Wednesdays from 4-5. Any kids in the UG at that time joins in. We learn a different Bible story each week, discuss it and pray as a group. From 5:30-6:00 on Wednesdays we have a $2 dinner for the youth. Usually it's kid-friendly food like tacos, pizza, pasta or sloppy joes.
JUG (Junior Underground) is for 6-8 grade youth and meets Wednesdays from 6ish-7ish
TUG (Teen Underground) is for high school youth and meets Sundays from 6:30-8:00 p.m. This year we're reading through the book "Story" by Steven James-- the goal is to see the entirety of God's story told in the Bible.
Special Events We do a 5th Quarter after each home varsity basketball game. On those nights, the UG is open for junior high and high school youth from 9 until midnight. We provide Koolaid and snacks. They provide energy and fun.
There are also two high school lock-ins each year, one junior high overnight, a 30 Hour Famine and more. Keep checking back for further updates.
Support The Underground has 2 fundraisers each year: A Dinner on the Saturday of the Covered Bridge Festival and a Chili Cook-Off during the winter. Other donations of snacks, money or games are cheerfully accepted, but not required. We really appreciate your prayers.
For more information on any of this, email Sara (ymdsara @ q.com -- but without the spaces in there) or call the church office: 462-3261.
