Back in action

So after a summer hiatus (sorry about that), I'm back to regularly blogging. Once we get the computer lab set up in the Underground, I hope to have different kids share their thoughts about the day with you. Until then, though, you're stuck with me.

The first week of school went pretty well. The UG is averaging about 20 kids a day so far and the first 5th quarter of the year was Friday. I was a little bit nervous about how many kids would show up for 5th quarter, especially since we lost a lot of our regulars to something ridiculous called "college." We still had a good group, though and I think they had a good time.

This week has the added bonus of an early out Wednesday. They get out of school at noon and that means they can play video games until 3.

There's also good buzz going about the addition of clubs. My idea is to get a few things regularly scheduled downstairs so the youth can have meetings about hobbies or games and hopefully get a chance to connect to some other adults, too. They've turned in some sheets with club ideas and hopefully we can get a few up and going soon.

The last thing I'll share today is that I just set up a twitter account for the Underground. I'm on twitter, too. Feel free to follow me, but I thought the Underground was worthy of it's own twitter. I'll use it to share quotes, maybe some retweets of UG friends and also just to give an idea of what's going on downstairs.
